MELTED - Group Show Curated by Laura Moriarty

May 5 - 26, 2012
Opening Party: May 5, 6 - 8 pm

Gallery Hours: Thursday - Saturday, 2 - 6 pm

Roos Arts is thrilled to present a group show - "Melted" - curated by artist Laura Moriarty. This show brings together artists who work with beeswax and whose work is a departure from traditional process. Moriarty directs the Gallery at R & F Handmade Paints in Kingston, NY, one of the only manufacturers of encaustic, a beeswax-based paint, in the world. A big contributor in our thriving community of artists, R&F provides a space where artists may gather and share their work and process using encaustic through workshops and exhibitions. R & F has created a supportive network of artists who live and work around Upstate NY and all over the United States and Canada. Through her close ties with R&F over the years, Moriarty has witnessed artists (including herself) who have incorporated encaustic, a traditional medium with specific technique, in their work. "Melted" explores the idea of how a "migratory thought" can move the artist to utilize a medium and technique that is itself changeable, and can bring about a change in how one arrives at an image and meaning.

Participating artists are:
Heather Aderson, Pamela Blum, Kevin Frank, Valerie Hammond, Allyson Levy, Laura Moriarty, Denise Orzo and Christy Rupp
